Fast Technology reported on August 7th that the Honor Robot Phone will be officially released on August 12th. Against the backdrop of a lack of disruptive innovation in the smartphone industry for many years, this new product, featuring a mechanical gimbal and emphasizing multimodal interaction and embodied intelligence, has attracted widespread attention.
In his latest program, Luo Yonghao talked about the Honor Robot Phone. He said the phone is very futuristic and he believes that everyone who sees it will be amazed, especially since it’s the first phone launched by a Chinese manufacturer.
He stated that when he was making mobile phones, most domestic manufacturers were imitating foreign products, but Smartisan did many things differently. Later, as the mobile phone industry developed, domestic manufacturers launched many innovative and imaginative products, and foreign manufacturers began to learn from Chinese designs. It’s just that some idiots don’t realize this and still think we’re always copying others, for example, that Chinese manufacturers were the first to make full-screen phones.
Luo Yonghao further pointed out that Honor’s upcoming Robot Phone may seem to be just a rigid combination of a gimbal camera and a mobile phone, but it involves extremely complex engineering problems, including structural design, precision control and stability assurance, each of which is a challenge.
Many core components cannot be directly sourced from the supply chain and must be developed in-house by the brand, which is extremely challenging. Furthermore, integrating the gimbal structure with AI at the software level is also very difficult.
He emphasized that this technology is not something that Huaqiangbei can easily replicate, and even if someone could make it, the cost would certainly be higher than that of Honor. Therefore, he was very pleased that a domestic manufacturer was able to launch a product that combines creativity and technology.
It is reported that the Honor Robot Phone breaks away from the stereotypical “boring black cube” design of mobile phones, pioneering a titanium alloy gimbal that is lightweight, compact, and highly stable. During daily use, the robotic arm can be completely retracted into the phone’s body, maintaining its unibody appearance; when activated, it pops out with a single button, providing users with a more flexible shooting experience.
The device’s imaging system was jointly tuned by Honor and ARRI, aiming to propel mobile imaging into a new stage of industrialized film production, enabling mobile terminals to possess Hollywood-level professional film production capabilities for the first time, and bringing professional-grade color performance and creative experience to image creation.
