Sony withdraws from Finland: the former mobile phone giant is declining

Sony’s mobile phone business has withdrawn from the Finnish market, and its latest flagship Xperia 1 VII is no longer available for purchase on Sony’s official Finnish website and partner websites.

Sony said that Finnish consumers cannot purchase Xperia 1 VII directly through Sony channels. Currently, Xperia 1 VII is available in some European markets through Sony’s official online store and Amazon. Sony will continue to fulfill its service and system upgrade commitments to existing customers.

Sony is currently reducing its smartphone business in the European market. Consumers can place orders for the Xperia 1 VII on Sony’s official websites in Germany and the UK, but the phone is not available on Sony’s official websites in most European countries.

According to information, Sony mobile phones can be traced back to the era of feature phones. Sony and Ericsson cooperated to create the Sony Ericsson brand in 2001.

The establishment of Sony Ericsson was seen as a model of powerful alliance at the time. Sony had outstanding industrial design and deep accumulation in industries such as music and games, while Ericsson was a long-established European communications company.

Around 2004 and 2005, Sony Ericsson introduced Sony’s advantages in digital cameras and music to mobile phones, launching the Cyber-shot series of camera phones and the Walkman series of music phones, which were a huge success in the market. At that time, Sony Ericsson’s market share was second only to Nokia and Samsung.

However, Sony Ericsson’s heyday did not last. Instead, its market share gradually declined. In February 2012, Ericsson sold its 50% stake to Sony, and Sony renamed its mobile phone business Sony Mobile.

In the Sony Mobile era, Sony created the world’s first 4K screen model. At that time, most mobile phones were still 1080P, but Sony released the 4K resolution mobile phone Z5 Premium in 2015, leading the industry.

However, this did not reverse the decline of Sony Mobile. The once mobile phone giant is now gradually declining.
