The iPhone Ultra’s thickness in its folded state exceeds 9 millimeters: setting a new Apple record.

Apple will officially release its first foldable screen iPhone Ultra in September. A blogger has leaked information that the iPhone Ultra’s thickness in its folded state is between 9mm and 9.5mm, while its unfolded thickness is only 4.5mm on each side.

If calculated based on the thickness in its folded state, the iPhone Ultra has broken the record for the thickest iPhone ever, surpassing all previous candybar models.

This phone features a 5.5-inch external screen and a 7.8-inch internal screen, with the internal screen boasting a peak brightness of 3000 nits and a Ceramic Shield glass display. It’s powered by the A20 Pro chip, has a dual 48MP rear camera setup, and supports eSIM. With a starting price exceeding $2000, it will be the most expensive iPhone ever.

Market research firm Counterpoint Research predicts that the iPhone Ultra will capture 29% of global foldable phone screen shipments in 2026 after its launch.

Samsung is expected to retain its leading position with a 31% market share, while Apple will reshape the market landscape in its first year with nearly 30% market share. The foldable smartphone panel market will thus end its adjustment phase, with total shipments projected at approximately 27.5 million units, a year-on-year increase of 24%.

Counterpoint Research believes that with Apple’s strong entry into the market, the foldable screen market will undergo a structural transformation in 2026: the brand landscape will shift from Samsung dominating the international market and Huawei leading the domestic market to a three-way competition between Apple, Samsung, and Huawei; the product form will also shift from small foldables that focus on cost-effectiveness to large foldable products with a wide foldable form factor.

TF International Securities analyst Ming-Chi Kuo points out that iPhone Ultra assembly and shipments could reach 7 to 8 million units in the second half of 2026, and are expected to grow to 20 to 25 million units in 2027.
