Apple released the official version of iOS 26.5 early this morning, nearly two months after the release of iOS 26.4.
The biggest change this time is the launch of end-to-end encrypted RCS, which allows iPhone and Android users to send messages to each other, providing the same level of security protection as iMessage.
Encrypted messages will display a small padlock icon, allowing users to intuitively determine whether the communication is secure. However, this feature still relies on carrier support and is currently in the gradual rollout phase.
In terms of map applications, Apple introduced the “Recommended Locations” feature, which intelligently recommends locations that users may be interested in based on their location and recent search history.
This not only enhances the map’s usability but also paves the way for the upcoming advertising feature, which is expected to officially launch this summer.
In addition, Apple has launched a new “Pride Luminance” live wallpaper that complements the Apple Watch face and band.
In addition to new features, Apple also fixed more than 50 security vulnerabilities in the iOS 26.5 and iPadOS 26.5 updates, recommending that all eligible users update as soon as possible. These vulnerabilities include several image vulnerabilities, kernel issues, and vulnerabilities related to shortcuts, Focus, and screenshots.
