According to Fast Technology on April 6, supply chain sources have confirmed that Apple’s first foldable screen phone, the iPhone Fold, has started trial production at Foxconn. It is expected to be launched at the September fall event alongside the iPhone 18 Pro series and go on sale globally in December.

As Apple’s first major product in the foldable screen market, the iPhone Fold is positioned in the ultra-high-end market, with a starting price in China expected to exceed 12,000 yuan, making it the most expensive phone in Apple’s history.

The device features a horizontal, book-like inward-folding design and is equipped with a dual-screen combination of a 5.5-inch external screen and a 7.8-inch internal screen, with the internal screen featuring an under-display front camera.

With a liquid metal hinge and a customized flexible glass solution, the crease depth is compressed to 0.15mm, making it virtually crease-free under strong light. The hinge also has a fatigue life of over one million cycles, completely eliminating crease anxiety associated with foldable screens.

The body is made of titanium alloy, with a closed thickness of 9-9.5mm and an unfolded thickness of only 4.5-4.8mm, balancing lightness and structural strength.

In terms of performance, the iPhone Fold is the first to feature the A20 Pro chip made with TSMC’s 2nm process, paired with 12GB of LPDDR6X memory, significantly upgrading AI computing power and multitasking capabilities.

To optimize internal space, the iPhone Fold will eliminate the current Face ID and instead integrate Touch ID into the side power button. It will also eliminate the physical SIM card slot and only support eSIM. For communication, it will be equipped with Apple’s self-developed C2 baseband, which supports millimeter wave.

In terms of imaging, it features a dual 48MP main rear camera setup, an under-display front camera on the inner screen, and a punch-hole front camera on the outer screen.

With a battery capacity of 5000-5800mAh, the largest in the history of the iPhone series, it comes with fast charging and wireless charging.

At the system level, the device is equipped with iOS 27, which is optimized for foldable screens. It natively supports true split-screen, dragging and dropping multiple apps, and seamless transition between inner and outer screens. However, the front-end scheduling feature available on iPad will be absent.
