Despite the dismal sales of the iPhone Air, Apple is not giving up: the Air 2 is on its way.
According to a blogger’s report on April 7th, despite the less-than-ideal market performance of the first-generation iPhone Air, Apple still plans to continue the iPhone Air series’ normal iteration. Regardless of current sales figures, Apple will proceed with the planned release of the second-generation iPhone Air 2.
Looking back at last year’s market, the iPhone Air, Apple’s major new product launched in September, had its core selling point in its extremely thin and light design. With a thickness of only 5.6 millimeters and a weight of approximately 165 grams, it broke the record for the thinnest phone in Apple’s history.

Due to a weaker-than-expected market response, Apple’s official Tmall flagship store announced a significant price reduction in January. The entire iPhone Air series saw a price drop of 2,000 yuan, with the 256GB standard version’s price decreasing from 7,999 yuan to 5,999 yuan.
With the addition of national subsidies, the final price of this model can be reduced to as low as 5499 yuan. This is the most significant price adjustment by Apple since the release of the iPhone 17 series, attracting widespread attention in the high-end mobile phone market.
Although the initial sales of the iPhone Air 2 failed to meet official expectations, development of the iPhone Air 2 did not stop. According to related leaks, the new generation will retain the existing 48-megapixel Fusion main camera and add a new 48-megapixel ultra-wide-angle lens, thus forming a more practical dual-camera combination.
To fit more powerful hardware into an extremely thin chassis, Apple’s engineering team is rearranging the internal structure, including fine-tuning the motherboard, battery, and heat dissipation components, in an effort to achieve optimal performance within a millimeter-scale space.
Furthermore, to address the common battery life and overheating issues faced by thin and light smartphones, Apple is considering introducing higher energy density battery cells and incorporating advanced liquid cooling solutions. These technologies will be key to the iPhone Air 2’s attempt to reverse its market reputation.
