A new Xiaomi phone with the model number 2608BPX34C has appeared in the GSMA database. This phone is believed to be a Xiaomi foldable phone.
In response, the blogger Digital Chat Station stated on Weibo that rumors are flying everywhere and that Xiaomi currently has no plans for a tri-fold screen.
Although Xiaomi has no plans to launch a tri-fold screen, it does have patents related to tri-fold screens, with patent application number 2022308530675 and authorization announcement number CN308817132S.
According to patents published by the State Intellectual Property Office, Xiaomi’s triple folding screen adopts a Z-shaped folding design and a horizontally positioned camera module on the back. When unfolded, its size is comparable to that of a tablet computer.
To date, the triple-folding screen market remains a niche market, with most manufacturers focusing on dual-folding screens. Apple will also enter the dual-folding screen race next year.
Canalys predicts that foldable smartphone shipments will surge by 51% year-on-year in 2026 and will continue to drive market momentum in 2027. Nevertheless, foldable screens will remain a niche market, accounting for less than 10% of the overall smartphone market.
