Galaxy S26 Series Could Soon Support Satellite Voice Calls

Before anyone gets overly excited, it’s important to note that nothing has been officially confirmed yet. Recently, information surfaced about Samsung’s new Exynos 2600 processor which is expected to be the company’s first chip built using a 2nm manufacturing process. Rumors suggest that this chip could be used in the upcoming Galaxy Z Flip8 and possibly in the Galaxy S26 series in certain regions. When Samsung first talked about the Exynos 2600 they didn’t mention anything about the modem which seemed unusual. Now, reports are starting to appear about a new Exynos Modem 5410 which may be part of the Exynos 2600 package.

The Exynos Modem 5410 combines LTE DTC, NB-IoT NTN and NR NTN into one modem chip. NB-IoT NTN, short for NarrowBand Internet of Things Non-Terrestrial Networks, operates at a very basic level of communication. It is designed to handle very small amounts of data such as location updates or short text messages. Even though the data speed is limited, it remains reliable in remote areas like deserts, open seas or other hard to reach locations. Samsung has stated that this NB-IoT NTN feature has received certification from Skylo.

LTE DTC which stands for Long Term Evolution Direct to Cell is likely the most exciting feature among these technologies. This is because it offers expanded satellite communication capabilities including support for voice calls. Additionally, the modem support NR NTN which stands for New Radio Non Terrestrial Networks. NR NTN is designed to offer higher data throughput and may allow future services such as video calls over satellite connections.

At this point, Samsung has not confirmed whether the Exynos Modem 5410 will be included in the Galaxy S26 series. Even so, it is clear that the modem is designed to be one of the company’s most premium and high end models. It is manufactured using a modern 4nm EUV process which helps improve performance and efficiency. The modem is built on the 3GPP Release 17 standard and supports 5G NR dual connectivity across both FR1 sub 6GHz and FR2 mmWave bands. According to Samsung, it can reach peak download speeds of up to 14.79Gbps.

To sum it up, if the Galaxy S26 series includes advanced satellite connectivity the Exynos Modem 5410 is probably where those features will come from. This modem appears to be the key component that would make such connectivity possible, so it could provide important clues about how these features work.
