Galaxy Z Fold 8 Expected to Receive Two Camera Upgrades Next Year

With the launch of the Galaxy Z Fold 7 earlier this summer, Samsung finally fixed some long standing camera weaknesses in its foldable phone lineup. These upgrades helped make the device more competitive with other premium smartphones. According to reports, Samsung is expected to continue this progress next year by adding even more camera upgrades to the Galaxy Z Fold 8.

New findings from GalaxyClub indicate that Samsung’s next premium foldable smartphone tentatively named the Galaxy Z Fold 8 will borrow certain features from the Galaxy S lineup. The device is also expected to feature upgraded telephoto and ultrawide camera sensors.

According to current information, the phone will continue using the 200MP main camera and 10MP selfie sensors from the Galaxy Z Fold 7. It also means that Samsung will not bring back the under display camera for this model.

Higher resolution upgrades

The Galaxy Z Fold 8 is expected to feature a telephoto camera that retains the same 3x optical zoom as its predecessor while boosting the resolution to 12MP up from 10MP. Reports indicate that this could be the same telephoto camera planned for the Galaxy S26 Ultra. On top of that, Samsung is expected to upgrade the ultrawide camera significantly increasing its resolution from 12MP on the Fold 7 to 50MP on the Fold 8.

It’s important to treat this information carefully for now. Even though the source is considered reliable the Galaxy Z Fold 8 is still a long way from launch which means plans could change. The device is not expected to be announced until at least July 2026 and a lot could happen before then. It will also be interesting to see whether any of these rumored camera upgrades make their way to the next Galaxy Z TriFold model.

The second device is even more uncertain at this stage but if its future depends on how well the first TriFold performs things are looking positive. The original TriFold is selling very well and quickly running out of stock. It’s also worth noting that the original TriFold shares the same cameras as the Fold 7 which makes it easy to imagine that the TriFold 2 and Galaxy Z Fold 8 might adopt similar camera improvements.

In any case, we still have a long wait before either of these new foldable devices hits the market. If you want to experience a premium foldable phone right now the Galaxy Z Fold 7 is the device to consider. The TriFold is currently only offered in a few markets and the recent holiday season has made it even easier for buyers to get their hands on the Fold 7.
