Google is developing an AI feature called Notification Organizer to automatically classify notifications in Android.

The feature is expected to debut in the quarterly update of Android 16, and is expected to be first launched on the Pixel 10 series of mobile phones, and may be extended to older Pixel models in subsequent updates.

This feature was first discovered last year and was called Bundled Notifications .

Recently, Google renamed it “Notification Organizer” and clearly marked it as “AI-driven and may contain errors.”

Similar to how G-mail automatically organizes your inbox, Notification Organizer uses AI to analyze incoming notifications and automatically sort them into four categories:

Promotions: promotional activities, new feature push, etc.

News: headlines, in-depth reports, etc.

Social: likes, comments, dynamic reminders, etc.

Recommended categories: news briefs, media recommendations, etc.

Once a notification is categorized, its corresponding notification channel will be updated to ensure that subsequent similar notifications can also be automatically sorted.

This week, a developer manually called up the notification organizer settings page in the Android 16 QPR1 Beta 2 version on the Pixel 8 Pro, showing the user control interface of the feature for the first time.

Users will be able to specify apps that are not to be organized, thus preventing important notifications from being misclassified by AI and hidden.

Google warned that since AI needs to analyze the content of various notifications, there is a possibility of occasional misclassification, so it provides a “no organization” option to ensure that key reminders are not missed.

The underlying framework of this feature is included in the open source code of Android 16, but the core AI service responsible for notification analysis and classification relies on the Android System Intelligence application, which is not part of the open source version of Android.

Therefore, even if Android 16 opens the framework, whether it can ultimately be used still depends on whether the device is pre-installed with Android system intelligence and has the required local AI model to support it.

The July Android Canary beta also debuted a demo animation of the notification organizer , showing its dynamic effect of automatic grouping, indicating that the feature development is nearing completion.

At present, Google has not announced the official release time, but news shows that it will debut with Pixel 10 and will be pushed to older models in subsequent Pixel Feature Drop updates.

In the future, this feature is expected to significantly reduce notification interference and help users manage mobile phone reminders efficiently, but the problem of AI misjudgment still needs further observation after the official version is released.
