Huawei Mate 80 RS Preview: The Most Aggressive Mate Flagship

Huawei’s upcoming flagship Mate 80 RS will feature significant innovations in imaging and display technology. The phone is expected to be equipped with a unique dual telephoto lens system and an advanced dual-layer OLED screen, configurations that are poised to redefine the technological standards of flagship smartphones.

Regarding the imaging system, it has been revealed that the Huawei Mate 80 RS will adopt a “dual-lens” telephoto solution similar to the Pura 80 series, which is Huawei’s first and currently unique technology in the industry.

This solution integrates two optical focal lengths—3.7x mid-telephoto and 9.4x super-telephoto—in a single module, sharing a 1/1.28-inch main camera-grade ultra-large sensor, enabling seamless switching between different focal lengths while reducing the footprint by 25% compared to traditional solutions.

In terms of display technology, the Mate 80 RS is expected to feature a 6.9-inch dual-layer OLED screen. This innovative technology adds another layer of light-emitting units on top of a single-layer OLED light-emitting unit, offering advantages such as higher brightness, lower power consumption, and longer lifespan compared to traditional OLEDs. Although the cost is higher, its superior performance has already attracted industry attention, and it is reported that Apple is also considering equipping the iPhone with similar technology.

According to another leak, the Huawei Mate 80 RS engineering prototype is currently testing a titanium alloy frame and a ceramic-textured back cover. The report states that “the factory prototype is very high-quality,” continuing the high-end positioning of the RS series. However, the “ceramic-textured back cover” implies that the phone will use a special glass material, achieving a lighter weight while maintaining a smooth feel.

In terms of core configuration, based on current information, the Huawei Mate 80 series is expected to be the first to feature the Kirin 9030 chip, which will achieve performance improvements through architecture optimization, and will come pre-installed with the new HarmonyOS 6 system. This combination of features is expected to bring significant improvements in system smoothness and overall performance.

Editor’s Review:

According to information revealed by the blogger, the Huawei Mate 80 RS has prepared groundbreaking technological solutions in the two core areas of imaging and display. The innovative design of the dual telephoto system and the pioneering application of dual-layer OLED demonstrate Huawei’s determination to continuously innovate in the high-end market.

Although the final mass-production version is still pending official confirmation, the existing technical specifications have already demonstrated the product’s strong potential to challenge the top-tier flagship market.
