Huawei Mate XT2 debuts with a U-shaped tri-fold design:

Huawei’s new generation tri-fold Mate XT2 Extraordinary Master will be released in September, which is almost a certainty. Blogger Dingjiao Digital revealed that the Mate XT2’s crease control and durability will see an exponential improvement. However, whether this phone will be released separately from the Mate 90 series is still uncertain and we need to wait for further official information.

According to current leaks, the biggest change in the Huawei Mate XT2 is that it completely abandons the previous generation’s S-shaped “folding” design and instead adopts an industry-first U-shaped triple-folding screen structure. The core principle of the U-shaped folding is that the two screens on the left and right sides of the device can simultaneously fold inward, completely enclosing the main display screen inside the device.

When the device is closed during normal use, the flexible screen remains completely hidden within the body, eliminating the risk of exposure and effectively preventing damage from accidental contact. This design completely solves the problem of the outer screen being easily scratched by hard objects due to long-term exposure, resulting in a significant improvement in drop and scratch resistance and greatly enhancing the overall durability of the device.

In addition, with Huawei’s self-developed precision hinge and new flexible laminated materials, the U-shaped fold not only effectively reduces the impact of multiple creases on the visual experience, but also finds a perfect balance between flat unfolding and sturdy storage, once again refreshing the form limit of tri-fold screen phones.

More importantly, the Mate XT2 integrates a separate external screen on the back of the device, supporting high-frequency operations such as making and receiving calls, quickly replying to messages, and scanning QR codes for payment. Everyday light tasks can be easily completed without unfolding the large screen, significantly improving ease of use.

In terms of size, the inner screen is expected to remain at 10.2 inches, with a refresh rate upgraded to 120Hz for a smoother scrolling and control experience. The screen material has also been upgraded to UFG ultra-flexible glass, significantly improving light transmittance and touch response, while effectively reducing the visibility of creases.

In terms of hardware configuration, this device will be the first to feature the Taolu Kirin chip, which is expected to be named the Kirin 9050 series, and its performance is highly anticipated. It will come pre-installed with the next-generation HarmonyOS operating system, and the deep synergy between software and hardware will further unleash the device’s potential.
