Huawei will cancel the single-lens dual-lens periscope telephoto technology in its future models. This technology was originally a transitional solution, with a large physical structure, high cost, and discontinuous focal length switching.

The blogger stated that Huawei is testing true continuous optical zoom technology, and the final actual experience will be even better.

It now appears that the Huawei Pura 80 Ultra, as the world’s first smartphone with a dual-lens camera, may be the last generation of its kind.

This binocular telephoto lens has previously garnered considerable attention and was even included in Time Magazine’s list of the best inventions of 2025.

Huawei has restructured the optical structure, combining the optical focal lengths of the 3.7x mid-telephoto lens and the 9.4x super-telephoto lens into one, and with a 1/1.28-inch main camera-level ultra-large sensor, it achieves a perfect combination of ultra-large sensor and dual telephoto lenses, bringing the industry’s largest light intake telephoto lens and a comprehensive leap in telephoto image quality.

This is an unprecedented design in the industry, using a periscope structure to realize two optical zoom lenses, thereby improving space utilization.

Li Xiaolong, the father of Huawei Mate, previously revealed that this telephoto module is the biggest hardware innovation on the Huawei Pura 80 Ultra, with very powerful performance. The only drawback is that the cost is very, very high.

According to the spare parts repair prices published on Huawei’s official website, this telephoto module costs 2,899 yuan, making it the most expensive component in the entire device.

The price of a single lens module is enough to buy a flagship model with excellent value for money. For example, the recently launched Realme GT8 starts at 2899 yuan, and the REDMI K90 standard edition 12+512GB also has an initial sale price of 2899 yuan.

In addition, the binocular technology has been controversial before. Some professional photography bloggers believe that it does not save much space compared to ordinary dual periscope modules, but the cost is much higher.

Honor’s chief imaging engineer, Luo Wei, once posted: “I’ve seen some leaks about one-inch lenses and dual-lens cameras. I can tell you definitively that none of that is true. We won’t blindly pile on hardware, and we certainly won’t waste time on flashy but impractical designs.”
