Huawei’s Mate 90 series and new tri-fold folding phone to launch in September

According to Fast Technology on June 4, blogger “Dingjiao Digital” recently revealed that Huawei plans to release the Mate 90 series and a new triple-folding screen flagship in September, while the Huawei Mate X8 large folding screen will be released later.

It’s worth mentioning that Apple will also release the iPhone 18 series in September, including its first foldable iPhone.

At that time, Huawei and Apple, the two mobile phone giants, may engage in direct competition in the high-end flagship and foldable screen markets.

For Huawei, the Mate 90 series is aimed at mainstream high-end flagships, while the new tri-fold design continues to occupy the position of ultra-high-end form factor innovation.

If two major new products are launched at the same time, it means that Huawei will bring a more complete product lineup to the high-end mobile phone battle in September.

Besides the brand-new design and imaging upgrades, performance is undoubtedly one of the biggest highlights of the Mate 90 series and the new tri-fold phone.

At the 2026 International Circuits Symposium, He Tingbo, Director of Huawei and President of its Semiconductor Business Unit, announced that the world’s first mass-produced mobile phone chip equipped with logic folding technology, the “Kirin 2026”, will be officially launched in the fall of 2026.

According to reports, the core logic circuit of this chip adopts a dual-layer vertical stacking architecture, replacing the traditional “geometric miniaturization” with “time miniaturization”, achieving a leapfrog improvement in performance and energy efficiency without the need for more advanced photolithography processes.

According to leaked information, this new flagship chip is expected to be named the Kirin 9050 series and will be the first in the world to be used in the Huawei Mate 90 series and the new triple-folding screen flagship.

Judging from the iteration rhythm of Huawei’s Kirin flagship chips in recent years, the Kirin 9050 series is expected to continue the dual-chip layout, and is expected to include two versions: the standard Kirin 9050 and the high-end Kirin 9050 Pro.

Among them, the high-end Kirin 9050 Pro may become the core highlight of the Mate 90 series and the new triple-folding screen flagship.
