Huawei’s third-generation tri-fold Mate XT2 has seen a surge in costs: starting price is poised to hit the 20,000 yuan mark.

Huawei’s third-generation tri-fold screen Mate XT2 will be officially released in September this year. Blogger Dingjiao Digital revealed that the cost of the Huawei Mate XT2 has increased significantly, and the starting price is expected to rise accordingly.

Looking back at the previous flagship Mate XTs, its starting price was 17,999 yuan (16GB+256GB). The upcoming Mate XT2 not only upgrades to a new generation Kirin chip based on the Tao Law, but also adds an external screen, significantly increasing the cost. The starting price is expected to be around 20,000 yuan.

According to leaked information, the Huawei Mate XT2 features a pioneering U-shaped triple-fold design, completely abandoning the previous generation’s S-shaped “folding” design. In its normally closed state, the flexible screen is entirely hidden inside the body, completely eliminating the risk of exposure and effectively preventing damage from accidental contact.

This design fundamentally solves the problem of the outer screen being easily scratched by hard objects when exposed for long periods, resulting in a significant improvement in drop resistance and scratch resistance, and greatly enhancing the overall durability of the device. At the same time, the Huawei Mate XT2 also adds an outer screen, facilitating daily calls, message replies, and QR code payments, further enhancing its practicality.

In terms of core configuration, the Huawei Mate XT2 is the first to be equipped with a new generation Kirin chip based on the Tao Law, which is expected to be named the Kirin 9050 series. This chip adopts logic folding technology, replacing the traditional “geometric shrinking” with “time shrinking”, achieving a leap in performance and energy efficiency without relying on more advanced lithography processes, providing stronger computing power support for the whole device.

More noteworthy is that while upgrading the Kirin chip and adding an external screen, the Mate XT2 is also operating within a period of significant memory price increases. IDC analysts point out that manufacturers’ previously purchased low-priced inventory is gradually being depleted, and cost pressures will be concentrated in the second half of the year.

Therefore, the Huawei Mate XT2 will most likely see a price increase, with the starting price approaching 20,000 yuan, making it one of the most expensive foldable screen models in Huawei’s history.
