Lei Jun shows off Xiaomi Mi 15’s “modular optical system”: magnetic external M43 sensor + 35mm lens
Lei Jun recently demonstrated Xiaomi’s internal pre-research project – modular optical system during a live broadcast.
This is an independent sensor + lens combination that can be magnetically attached to a Xiaomi 15 series mobile phone, connected to the phone wirelessly, and the phone provides computing power.
This external accessory uses an M43 sensor and has an F1.4 aperture + 35mm focal length fixed focus lens.

Compared with the current photography kit for Xiaomi 15 Ultra, people have higher expectations for this accessory because it is a product that will truly change the photography effects and experience of mobile phones.
Lei Jun mentioned that this accessory will be displayed at the MWC conference, but the launch date has not yet been announced.
It is worth mentioning that this is not the first time that Xiaomi has put a professional lens on a mobile phone. In 2022, it also launched the Xiaomi 12S Ultra concept phone. By modifying the phone, the one-inch sensor can be connected to the Leica M series lens.
The moment it screws on the lens, the second direct light sensor built into the phone starts working. With the f/1.4 lens, the amount of light entering is increased by 1 times compared to Xiaomi 12S Ultra, which greatly improves the phone’s shooting capabilities and enables ultra-high-definition blockbusters that were not possible before.
However, the implementation method of the Xiaomi 12S Ultra concept phone means that it can only be a concept phone and cannot be mass-produced. The small accessories displayed this time are very likely to be mass-produced, which is worth looking forward to.
