Samsung CEO Signals Potential Price Increase for Upcoming Galaxy Phones

In recent times, higher memory chip prices seem to be on everyone’s mind. What started as a supply chain issue is now clearly affecting consumers directly. The prices of PC RAM have increased sharply over the past few weeks and graphics card prices are also slowly starting to climb.

It is expected that the effects of these price increases will also reach the mobile device segment. When TM Roh, the co-CEO of Samsung Electronics and the head of its mobile division says that this is likely to happen, there is a strong chance that it will become a reality.

A Snapshot of Today’s Market Dynamics

While speaking to Reuters at CES 2026, Roh explained that Samsung’s mobile division is not “immune” to the ongoing memory chip shortage. This is despite Samsung Electronics operating a massive semiconductor division that is set to make significant profits during this strong cycle for memory chips.

He pointed out that the shortage affects more than just mobile products like smartphones and tablets. The effects are likely to extend to other consumer electronics as well as including televisions and home appliances.

According to Roh, Samsung cannot rule out raising the prices of Galaxy devices due to the higher cost of memory chips. He stated that given the current market conditions some impact cannot be avoided but added that the company is working on long term solutions to limit the burden on consumers.

Reports indicate that memory chip suppliers including Samsung are not offering customers long term supply agreements for memory chips. It has also been reported that Samsung’s own semiconductor division is moving to short term contracts with its mobile division meaning the mobile division isn’t receiving any preferential access.

Samsung has not yet disclosed any details about the prices for the Galaxy S26 series. However, rumors suggest that the new devices could be more expensive. Roh’s latest comments have only added more fuel to these discussions.
