Reports indicate that Samsung is developing a major advancement in biometric security for the Galaxy S27 Ultra. The upgraded facial recognition system is expected to perform better than the current 2D image based scanning method, offering users a faster, more secure and more advanced unlocking experience.

This rumor began with a source that doesn’t have much of a background and considering the Galaxy S27 Ultra won’t be out until 2027, it’s best not to take it too seriously yet.

Expected to Be Safer Than Current Facial Authentication

According to @SPYGO19726 on X, the Galaxy S27 Ultra’s early firmware has a note about “Polar ID v1.0.” The logs explain it as a polarized-light security method.

It also claims that the feature is connected to the front ISOCELL Vizion sensor and a new secure system called BIO-Fusion Core. It’s said to unlock in about 180 milliseconds while being harder to fool than older face unlocks.

Theoretically, this approach could offer an advantage over existing IR sensor solutions. By using the high resolution polarization signature of the skin, face unlock would become more secure and work reliably in most lighting conditions, even if the user is wearing a mask or sunglasses.

It’s worth noting that this same insider previously sparked a heated debate with other informants over a Galaxy S26 Ultra camera rumor, so it’s best to treat this news cautiously. Right now, the Galaxy S26 Ultra is the one we should focus on. It’s only a few months away, whereas the S27 Ultra is still a long way off.
