Samsung Could Push Apple to Raise iPhone Prices Next Year
It looks like 2026 may be a difficult year for the consumer electronics industry. The cost of key components, especially memory chips is increasing week after week. As costs continue to rise manufacturers are left with limited choices. They can downgrade specifications, earn less profit or increase prices to cover the higher costs which may impact consumers.
Apple may face some difficult choices when planning its iPhones for 2026. There is a strong chance that these devices could become more expensive. Samsung’s moves in the industry are likely to put pressure on Apple effectively forcing the company to respond in a similar way.
Samsung Set to Earn Huge Profits from Memory Chips
Memory chip prices have risen sharply over the past few months. Experts expect these prices to continue rising over the next year. With few alternatives available, companies are now being forced to rethink their strategies and find solutions in a very limited market.
Samsung’s mobile division is also affected by these market shocks. A recent report suggests that Samsung’s memory division has ended long term agreements with the mobile division and moved to quarterly contracts. This change is expected to help pricing stay in step with current market conditions.
In response to the current market conditions, Samsung’s mobile division head TM Roh is reportedly planning a meeting with Micron’s CEO early next month. The goal of the meeting is to ensure there is enough memory supply for the upcoming Galaxy S26 series. However, prices for next year’s flagship models could still increase.
Samsung and SK Hynix are two of the major suppliers of memory chips for Apple’s iPhones and other devices. The company’s long term agreements with these suppliers are approaching their expiration. Reports suggest that starting in January 2026, Samsung and SK Hynix plan to raise the prices of memory chips supplied to Apple.
If Samsung’s memory division is not giving its own mobile division any special consideration when it comes to memory pricing, it is highly unlikely that Apple will receive a favorable deal. Whether this will push iPhone prices higher in the coming year remains to be seen though it has become a genuine possibility.
