Samsung is still the king of premium Android phones

Earlier this month, a market analysis revealed some exciting news for Samsung. Not only did the brand ship the highest number of smartphones in the Android space, but it also matched Apple in global market share. On top of that, Samsung outperformed all its Android competitors in premium smartphone sales.

According to Counterpoint Research’s analysis of the global smartphone market in 2024, Samsung continues to solidify its position as a leader. The report highlighted that the average selling price (ASP) of Galaxy smartphones was $299—higher than its closest competitors Oppo ($247), Vivo ($215), and Xiaomi ($152). These numbers underscore Samsung’s dominance in the premium Android segment.

Of course, Apple remains in a league of its own with an ASP of $903, nearly three times that of Samsung. But this is largely because Apple exclusively sells premium smartphones.

Chinese Flagships Struggle to Compete

Despite all the buzz about Chinese flagship phones, they don’t seem to outsell Samsung’s premium devices. Influencers and tech reviewers often claim that Chinese brands offer better flagship phones, but the numbers tell a different story—people still prefer Galaxy phones.

Why does Samsung stay ahead? One reason is that its flagship phones deliver a more well-rounded experience, while Chinese brands tend to excel only in specific areas. Samsung’s One UI also seems to resonate better with users compared to the Android interfaces offered by other manufacturers.

Another major factor is Samsung’s global reach. The South Korean giant operates in more markets worldwide than its competitors. Where it’s present, Samsung offers more sales points and service centers, making it easier for people to access their devices and get support when needed.

It’s clear that Samsung remains the king of the premium Android smartphone market, and it doesn’t look like that’s going to change anytime soon.
