During its Snapdragon Summit held in Maui, Hawaii this September, Qualcomm introduced the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 flagship chipset. The company also briefly talked about the Snapdragon 8 Gen 5 although it did not reveal its features and stated that it would be released in 2025. However, Qualcomm’s Chinese division has officially announced that the Snapdragon 8 Gen 5 will actually launch on November 26.

The company hasn’t disclosed the full specifications and features of the Snapdragon 8 Gen 5 yet. However, back in September it explained that the chip was being developed as a mobile platform meant to give users more choice and flexibility, while still offering all the important top tier features people expect.

The Snapdragon 8 Gen 5 was later confirmed to use a 3nm fabrication process similar to the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5. The Snapdragon 8 Gen 5’s prime core can reach a maximum clock speed of 3.8GHz, while its performance cores top out at 3.32GHz. Meanwhile, the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 boasts higher clock speeds with its prime cores reaching 4.6GHz and its performance cores up to 3.62GHz making it a more powerful option for demanding tasks.

The Snapdragon 8 Gen 5 was first thought to come with a 1+7 core setup but well known tipster Digital Chat Station later reported that it will actually use a 2+6 configuration just like the Elite version. This means there will be two powerful prime cores for intensive tasks and six performance cores for normal operations. The tipster also mentioned that the Snapdragon 8 Gen 5 will use the Adreno 840 GPU but it will not perform at the same level as the Elite version.

We will get the full details about the Snapdragon 8 Gen 5 in just one week. In the meantime, you can check out our article on the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5.
