In recent years, the iPhone has been lacking in innovation, with product iterations being slow year after year, and the foldable iPhone still not showing up. What exactly is Apple up to? Now the answer is finally revealed!

In his latest column, Bloomberg reporter Mark Gurman said that Apple’s first foldable screen mobile phone may be named “iPhone Fold”. The new phone adopts a “book-style” large folding structure design and will be available as early as 2026 .

Apple whistleblower Ming-Chi Kuo, an analyst at Tianfeng International Securities, gave a more detailed prediction.

First of all, this is a true AI phone. Secondly, it is also the most high-end iPhone ever. The first generation of foldable iPhone is expected to be priced at more than US$2,000-2,500 (RMB 14,500-18,100).

He believes that the iPhone is a rigid demand and the Apple brand has a high premium. As long as the quality is good enough, even if the price is very high, the demand for replacement phones driven by the foldable iPhone will still be very strong.

The main specifications of the new machine are expected to be as follows:

1. Touch ID returns in the form of a side button, without Face ID (due to thickness and space limitations).

2. It adopts a “book-style” left-right folding design, with an inner screen of 7.8 inches without creases and an outer screen of 5.5 inches.

3. The rear camera uses dual lenses, and there is a front camera when opened and folded.

4. The folded thickness is about 9-9.5mm, and the unfolded thickness is about 4.5-4.8mm.

5. Uses the same high-density battery as the ultra-thin iPhone.

6. Apple will do whatever it takes to eliminate the crease.

The leak also mentioned that the foldable iPhone will be the first product to use liquid metal on a large scale . The latest industry survey pointed out that in order to improve the durability and screen flatness of the foldable iPhone, as well as to achieve the goal of no creases on the screen, Apple will use liquid metal materials and die casting for the hinge. Yian Technology is the exclusive supplier of liquid metal and the main beneficiary.

Apple has been using liquid metal for a long time (such as the pin that pops out the SIM slot), but the foldable iPhone will be the first to use liquid metal extensively in core components.

It is expected that other Android brand phones will more actively adopt liquid metal as the main material for bearings in order to compete with the foldable iPhone.

Guo Mingchi said that the final specifications of the first-generation foldable iPhone will be finalized in the second quarter of 2025, the project will be officially started in the third quarter of this year, and mass production is expected in the fourth quarter of 2026.

The second-generation foldable iPhone is expected to go into mass production in the second half of 2027.
