Xiaomi 18 Fold come standard with SuperPixel technology: full RGB array and built-in AR film.

Fast Technology reported that the screen solution for the Xiaomi 18 Fold was officially unveiled. Both the inner and outer screens are equipped with Super Pixel technology and adopt a full RGB arrangement, which can have a higher number of effective pixels, bringing a more refined display effect in terms of text edges, image details, and color reproduction.

SuperPixel technology has now become a standard feature of Xiaomi’s flagship models, achieving 9.389 million sub-pixels through full RGB arrangement, compared to only 9.216 million traditional 2K diamond arrays.

Superpixel technology enables screens to achieve a resolution exceeding 2K, while consuming less power at the same brightness compared to 1.5K.

This is mainly due to the full RGB arrangement, which allows each pixel to have complete three-color pixels, with an equivalent resolution of 1, while the red and blue pixels of the traditional diamond arrangement need to borrow adjacent sub-pixels, with an equivalent resolution of only 0.8.

This is also the main reason why many people feel that the clarity is worse when they switch from LCD to OLED screens, even if the official resolution data is the same.

In addition, the Xiaomi 18 Fold’s screen boasts a peak brightness of 4000 nits and 30% APL for everyday scenarios; the inner screen is also equipped with an AR film for anti-reflection and clearer display.

One thing to note is that the Xiaomi 18 Fold adopts a large rounded corner design. While this usually provides a comfortable viewing experience and grip, it also results in asymmetry on both sides of the outer screen, which may require users to get used to for a while.

In terms of specific dimensions, the Xiaomi 18 Fold has a 5.38-inch external screen, emphasizing its compact size and portability for one-handed use; when unfolded, the internal screen reaches a size of 7.58 inches, providing a tablet-like user experience while controlling the body size.

The inner and outer screens use a standard paper ratio of approximately √2:1, which is basically the same as the Huawei Pura X Max. If nothing unexpected happens, future foldable phones will all have a similar ratio.
