Xiaomi to restart foldable smartphone next year: Mi MIX Fold 5 to join Apple’s foldable screen competition

It is reported that Xiaomi’s latest large folding model is the MIX Fold 4 released last year, and there are no plans to launch a new model this year.

MIX Fold 4 uses a 6.56-inch external screen and a 7.98-inch internal screen, is equipped with Snapdragon 8 Gen3, has a built-in 5100mAh Jinshajiang battery, and supports 67W wired and 50W wireless flash charging.

Although MIX Fold 4 is fully equipped, it is a bit slow in adapting the most critical software for folding screens, and the overall experience is slightly weaker, resulting in lagging sales.

In addition, it weighs 226g, is 4.59mm thick when unfolded, and 9.47mm thick when closed, which is not considered thin and light nowadays.

Xiaomi is currently suspending one generation internally, probably as it is adjusting its direction and planning more significant upgrades. The next generation may be more amazing.

It is worth noting that although the large folding phone has been suspended, Xiaomi’s Xiaomi folding models performed very well, and Xiaomi MIX Flip ranked second in sales in the small folding industry in 2024.
