5% price increase! iPhone 17 Pro starting price exceeds $1,000 for the first time
Apple’s iPhone 17 series of mobile phones, which will be released in September, may see a price increase. Affected by the US tariff policy, the three models of the iPhone 17 series, Pro, Pro Max and Air, are expected to increase in price by US$50, an increase of about 5%, and the starting price of the Pro model will exceed the US$1,000 mark for the first time .
Although smartphones have not yet been officially included in the scope of reciprocal tariffs, Apple has incurred additional costs by transferring part of its iPhone production from mainland China to India. India’s production capacity is insufficient and it still needs support from mainland factories. Coupled with factors such as rising component prices, Apple may pass on the costs to the selling price.
Previously, Apple CEO Cook confirmed that tariff expenses reached $800 million last quarter, and if the policy remains unchanged, tariff costs this quarter may rise to $1.1 billion.
In the first half of the year, some American consumers bought phones in advance due to concerns about price increases, which drove Apple’s performance growth last quarter.
However, the price increase of the iPhone 17 series and Apple’s possible requirement that suppliers absorb part of the tariff costs will put pressure on the business of supply chain companies such as TSMC, Largan Precision, e-Optical, Foxconn, and Pegatron in the second half of the year.
