Xiaomi’s magnetic lens has entered mass production! It could debut as early as this year
According to a report by Fast Technology on February 4th, the blogger Digital Chat Station recently revealed that “the magnetic lens has started mass production and could be seen as early as this year (TBD)”.
Although the blogger did not mention a specific manufacturer, the most likely candidate is the modular optical system, which was the major weapon that Xiaomi unveiled with the Xiaomi 15 series.

Lei Jun once demonstrated this system during a live broadcast. At the time, it was still an internal pre-research project, but it received a great deal of attention and praise from the mobile phone and camera industries.
In short, the system is a magnetically detachable lens that uses a custom M4/3 sensor and an aspherical lens group to deliver a full 100-megapixel resolution, an equivalent 35mm focal length, and a large f/1.4 aperture.
The F1.4 aperture makes it a night scene marvel, and the 35mm prime lens has a perspective closer to the human eye, making it suitable for portraits and street photography, with a more natural bokeh effect.

Most importantly, Xiaomi’s modular optical system supports near-light-speed laser transmission, with speeds up to 10Gbps, and supports lossless RAW information transmission.
It can seamlessly call up Xiaomi AISP, driven by a large on-device model for computational photography, bringing computing power that traditional cameras cannot match, unlocking UltraRAW super digital film, and bringing an exaggerated 16 stops of dynamic range.
No complicated wiring or pairing is required, and there is no need to carry an extra battery. The lens is also small and easy to carry.
Compared to the teleconverters and other solutions currently used by competitors, Xiaomi’s modular optical system is a product that will truly revolutionize mobile phone photography effects and experience.
Even with the support of AI algorithms, the actual user experience will far exceed that of traditional M4/3 cameras.
