Fast Technology reported that renders of Sony’s next-generation flagship phone, the Xperia 1 VIII, have recently surfaced on social media.

Judging from the leaked images, the Xperia 1 VIII features a square camera module on the back and is equipped with a triple-camera system, representing the biggest leap in industrial design for Sony’s flagship phones in recent years.

Looking back at previous products, starting with the Xperia 1 II released in 2020, Sony’s high-end flagship series has consistently used a vertical camera design, positioned on the left side of the body. After six years, Sony finally broke this design tradition with the Xperia 1 VIII.

This brand-new square lens module has sparked widespread discussion. Many netizens commented that the back cover layout of Sony’s new flagship is quite similar to that of the OnePlus 10 Pro from back then, and the visual style is completely different from previous Sony phones.

In terms of core hardware, following Sony’s consistent release practices, the Xperia 1 VIII is expected to be equipped with Qualcomm’s fifth-generation Snapdragon 8 Ultra flagship platform, providing top-notch performance.

Unfortunately, Sony has essentially withdrawn from the Chinese mainland mobile phone market since last year. Sony’s official Xperia service account is now completely discontinued, meaning that the Xperia 1 VIII will not be released in China.

For Sony mobile phone enthusiasts in China, they may only be able to obtain this Japanese flagship through other channels in the future.
