Fast Technology reported that the Doubao phone, which was launched last December, caused a sensation in the tech world upon its release. Not only did it sell out immediately, but the first batch of engineering prototypes were also resold on secondhand platforms for several hundred yuan more. Industry insiders have hailed it as the first truly meaningful smartphone.

With the assistance of Doubao Mobile Assistant, AI can completely control the phone. It can understand the interface, select or download apps, click buttons, input text, make calls, and even execute a whole chain of multi-step tasks.

Following Doubao, OpenAI is also entering the mobile phone market. Analyst Ming-Chi Kuo revealed that OpenAI has accelerated the development of AI phones, aiming for mass production and market launch in the first half of 2027, which foreshadows a disruptive change in the mobile phone industry.

Ming-Chi Kuo also revealed that OpenAI’s first AI phone will be the first to feature a customized version of the MediaTek Dimensity 9600 processor. This chip uses TSMC’s 2nm process and is planned for mass production in the second half of this year, and it adopts a dedicated dual-NPU architecture design.

In addition, the OpenAI phone will be the first to feature higher-end LPDDR6 memory and UFS 5.0 flash storage. If development progresses smoothly, shipments are expected to reach 30 million units in 2027 and 2028.

Industry insiders believe that only by fully controlling the underlying permissions of the operating system can a truly comprehensive AI service be provided, which is a key reason why AI giants are entering the mobile phone market. This deep integration will give AI assistants more powerful execution capabilities than ever before.

This model will directly erode the competitive advantages of traditional internet giants. Services that previously required users to open the app are now being provided directly by AI. Users no longer need to watch ads or refresh the homepage; traditional traffic logic is facing collapse.

Through this app-free experience, AI-powered smartphones are reshaping the interaction logic of the mobile internet. In the future, smartphones will no longer be merely carriers of applications, but intelligent terminals capable of proactively thinking and handling complex tasks for users.
