A sneak peek at the five major upgrades of the iPhone 18 Pro.
According to the latest supply chain news, Apple plans to significantly adjust its product release schedule this year. At the upcoming September event, Apple is expected to only launch the iPhone 18 Pro series and the highly anticipated first large-screen foldable iPhone Fold.
This means that this fall’s market will be almost entirely dominated by top-tier flagship phones in the 10,000 yuan price range, while the more affordable standard iPhone 18 may not officially debut until the first quarter of next year.
As Apple’s most significant upgrade to date, the iPhone 18 Pro series will bring at least five core selling points, as follows.
1. Smaller Dynamic Island:
First, there’s the significant evolution of the “Isle of Light.” Apple has successfully hidden the flood illuminator beneath the screen, reducing the Isle of Light area on the iPhone 18 Pro by approximately 35%. For users seeking a visually immersive experience, this is undoubtedly the iPhone with the highest screen-to-body ratio.
2. Variable aperture:
In terms of the imaging system, both the iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max have upgraded their main cameras to a 48-megapixel variable aperture lens. Users can freely adjust the aperture size according to the shooting scene, precisely controlling the amount of light and the depth of field effect, making mobile phone photography more professional.
3. A20 Pro chip:
In terms of core power, the A20 Pro chip is built on TSMC’s most advanced 2nm process. Compared with the previous generation’s 3nm process, its performance and energy efficiency will take a qualitative leap under the new architecture and packaging, providing stronger support for complex AI applications.
4. N2 chip:
Last year’s iPhone 17 series introduced Apple’s self-developed N1 chip, while this year’s iPhone 18 Pro is expected to be equipped with the next-generation N2 chip, which will perform better in terms of Wi-Fi 7, Bluetooth protocol and AirDrop stability.
5. C2 baseband:
Finally, there’s the iteration of the self-developed 5G baseband. The brand-new C2 baseband will appear in the iPhone 18 Pro series. This baseband will support 5G millimeter wave, making up for the shortcomings of the previous generation C1.
