Apple iPhone 16 Pro To Use G+P Glass And Plastic Camera Lenses Along With A18 Chip And WiFi 7
According to a leak from Chinese Leaker, Apple is considering adopting a 1MG+7P (one molded glass lens plus seven plastic lenses) glass-plastic module for the iPhone16 Pro series. This series is also confirmed to feature a 1/1.14″± super large lens and a periscope-style super telephoto combination. Huawei is also contemplating using this G+P glass solution, which offers enhanced optical performance.
The term G+P refers to the combination of glass and plastic lenses, and the 1MG+7P configuration implies a single molded glass lens accompanied by seven plastic lenses. Lin Enping, the chairman of Largan Precision, revealed last year that some clients’ flagship phones for 2024 would incorporate a 1MG+6P or 7P scheme, predicting that this hybrid lens design would become a future trend.
Apple has reportedly customized a 48-megapixel IMX 903 sensor from Sony, approximately 1/1.14″ in size, which is expected to be exclusive to the Pro series. The iPhone 16 Pro (codenamed Diablo) is anticipated to feature a 6.3-inch screen, up from the 6.1 inches of the iPhone 15 Pro. The iPhone 16 Pro Max (codenamed Lightning) is expected to have a 6.9-inch display, an increase from the 6.7 inches of the iPhone 15 Pro Max.
Analyst Ming-Chi Kuo has indicated that the iPhone 16 Pro models will undergo a significant imaging upgrade, featuring two 48MP sensors for the first time, while the telephoto lens will remain at 12MP. Additionally, the iPhone 16 Pro is expected to continue using the dual-folded prism telephoto lens from the iPhone 15 Pro Max. The front camera of the iPhone 17 series is also slated for an upgrade, with a 24MP sensor and a 6P lens.
Kuo mentioned last year that Apple plans to switch to a stacked rear camera sensor design for the entire iPhone 16 series, with the sensors manufactured by Sony and expected to be a dual-layer (Photodiode + Pixel) crystal pixel architecture (2-layer Transistor Pixel).
Furthermore, Apple is preparing to introduce a new photography button in the iPhone 16 Pro series. This button, codenamed Nova, will utilize capacitive and force sensor features, specifically for video shooting, as confirmed by Mark Gurman.
In terms of appearance, the iPhone 16 Pro and iPhone 16 Pro Max are expected to continue using the same Grade 5 titanium (Ti-6Al-4V) as the iPhone 15 Pro, with no significant changes in the overall design. However, a new color option is anticipated, following Apple’s usual practice.
Other specifications include the A18 Pro chip, support for Wi-Fi 7, and Qualcomm’s Snapdragon X75 modem, enabling 7.5 Gbps 5G download speeds. The iPhone 16 Pro’s battery is rumored to feature graphene cooling with a capacity of 3355mAh and a new battery stacking design, potentially supporting 40W wired charging.
