According to reports, Apple is conducting a large-scale reorganization of the Siri team to address long-standing criticisms. Mark Gurman revealed that new Siri engineering head Mike Rockwell is overhauling the team, bringing in core members from the Vision Pro project to enhance Siri’s functionality and user experience.

Rockwell, who previously led Apple’s Vision Products Group and oversaw Vision Pro development, has reshuffled Siri’s leadership, appointing several trusted colleagues from his Vision Pro tenure. He also reorganized teams handling speech recognition, comprehension, performance, and UX to streamline development and strengthen Siri’s capabilities.

Upon taking charge, Rockwell recruited Ranjit Desai, a key deputy from Vision Pro, to lead Siri’s core engineering efforts, including foundational platforms and systems.

Vision Pro’s senior software lead Olivier Gutknecht now heads Siri’s UX design, while veteran Apple software engineering managers Nate Begeman and Tom Duffy joined to work on underlying infrastructure. Apple’s AI/ML team faced months of management disputes, ideological divisions, and execution issues—even being mockingly called ‘AI/MLess’ by some employees.

Industry observers note that Siri’s reputation has suffered for years. If Apple truly aims to reinvent it, they suggest rebranding with an entirely new digital assistant to shed legacy baggage.
