The mystery surrounding Samsung’s next Galaxy S26 chipsets seems mostly solved. Sources indicate that the Galaxy S26 and S26+ will be powered by the Exynos 2600 worldwide, while the Galaxy S26 Ultra will use Exynos in most regions and switch to the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 in markets like the US, Japan and China.
Looking ahead to 2027, Samsung’s chipset decisions could get complicated. Sources suggest Qualcomm is working on dual variants of its next flagship processor, possibly branded as the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6.
Meet the Snapdragon That Breaks the “For Galaxy” Mold
Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Gen 6 is expected in two versions: Standard and Pro. Both will likely be manufactured on TSMC’s 2nm process but the GPU specifications will differ. The Pro variant may be the only one to support LPDDR6 memory and deliver higher performance.
This implies that most 2027 flagship smartphones will likely use the Standard version of the Snapdragon 8 Gen 6, while ultra-premium models from any manufacturer could feature the Pro variant. This could lead to confusion, as many consumers may mistakenly believe that all Snapdragon 8 Gen 6-equipped phones perform equally.
Assuming Samsung maintains its current chipset strategy for the Galaxy S27, it’s unclear whether the Pro variant will be adopted. Samsung typically receives a slightly overclocked “for Galaxy” edition of Qualcomm’s flagship chip but LPDDR6 support could put the Pro version in a league of its own.
