Galaxy Z Flip 8 Camera Details Might Fall Short of Expectations

Reports suggest that Samsung is preparing to launch three new foldable phones later this year. The expected models include the Galaxy Z Flip 8, the Galaxy Z Fold 8 and wider variant of the Galaxy Z Fold 8. The camera specifications of the Galaxy Z Flip 8 have now leaked online for the first time. However, these early details indicate that the phone’s camera performance might not be very impressive and could disappoint some fans.

GalaxyClub reports that the Galaxy Z Flip 8 will come with a 10MP selfie camera, a 50MP main rear camera and a 12MP ultrawide camera. Notably, this camera setup is exactly the same as what Samsung offered on the Galaxy Z Flip 7 which was released about six months ago. It is a bit unexpected that Samsung has not upgraded the front camera to 12MP on its upcoming flip phone, particularly when many recent Galaxy A and Galaxy S smartphones have already received a 12MP selfie camera upgrade.

The Galaxy Z Fold 7 introduced a powerful 200MP main camera and the upcoming Galaxy Z Fold 8 is expected to add a 50MP ultrawide camera. Together, these changes show that the Galaxy Z Fold series has received two notable camera upgrades over the past two years. In contrast, the Galaxy Z Flip series has not received any significant camera improvements during the same period.

Samsung may believe that users who want higher quality selfies can simply use the Galaxy Z Flip 8’s 50MP rear camera with the help of the cover display. As a result, the company might not be prioritizing an upgrade to the front facing camera. Instead of that Samsung could be directing its resources toward enhancing other aspects of the device such as improving battery capacity or achieving a slimmer overall design.
