Huawei Mate XT2 is ready: the first U-shaped tri-fold folding design, is available for pre-order.
Huawei took the lead in mass production and launch of the tri-fold Mate XT Master, which set a dual record for the world’s thinnest and largest foldable screen phone with a body thickness of 3.6 mm and a super large 10.2-inch screen.
Despite the starting price of 19,999 yuan, the number of pre-orders exceeded 5 million before the first sale. On second-hand platforms, scalpers resold it for 50,000 to 60,000 yuan, and some sellers even offered a sky-high price of 100,000 yuan, with a premium rate of nearly 5 times.
Huawei’s new generation tri-fold Mate XT2 is set to debut this September. Blogger Dingjiao Digital predicts the Mate XT2 will likely sell out again, with scalpers potentially seeing significant markups.

The biggest difference from its predecessor lies in the folding structure. The Mate XT2 completely abandons the S-shaped “folding” design and instead adopts an industry-first U-shaped triple-folding screen structure.
In its normally closed state, the flexible screen is completely hidden inside the body, eliminating the risk of exposure and fundamentally solving the problem of the outer screen being easily scratched when exposed for a long time. The drop resistance and scratch resistance have been greatly improved.

In terms of core configuration, the Mate XT2 will debut a new generation of Kirin chips based on Tao’s principles, expected to be named the Kirin 9050 series. For comparison, the second-generation Mate XTs, released in September 2025, is equipped with the Kirin 9020, making the Kirin 9050 in the Mate XT2 a potential generational leap. It will also come pre-installed with the new generation HarmonyOS operating system, with deep software and hardware synergy further unleashing the device’s potential.

Looking back at Huawei’s tri-fold product line, from the first-generation Mate XT in 2024 equipped with Kirin 9010, 5600mAh battery and Tiangong hinge system, to the Mate XTs in 2025 upgraded with Kirin 9020 and equipped with Red Maple Original Color camera, improving impact resistance by 30%, and then to the upcoming Mate XT2, Huawei has continued to iterate in this field.
When the previous generation Mate XT went on sale, nearly 7 million people rushed to buy it online. The supply chain predicted that the annual shipment volume would be around 1 million units, resulting in a huge supply-demand gap. In order to combat scalpers, Huawei has taken measures such as on-site activation and taking photos for record-keeping, but it is still difficult to completely curb the price gouging. Whether the Mate XT2 can continue the “hard-to-find” phenomenon will be revealed in September.
