Huawei Mate XT2, will debut in September: featuring an industry-first U-shaped triple folding design.
According to a blogger’s report on July 1st, Huawei will simultaneously release two major flagship phones in September: the Mate XT2 with a triple-folding screen and the Mate 90 series flagship with a straight design.
The Mate XT2 will be positioned to compete with Apple’s foldable iPhone Ultra, which will be launched at the same time. The foldable flagship phones from these two tech giants will face off in the same month, undoubtedly becoming one of the most watched focuses in the mobile phone market in the second half of the year.

In terms of design, the Mate XT2 pioneered the U-shaped triple-fold form factor. The phone is equipped with two screens, an inner and an outer one. Through a unique hinge structure, the inner screen folds inward on both sides when folded, completely enclosing the main screen. All flexible display panels are housed inside the body.
The direct benefit of this folding design is a significant improvement in the device’s drop and scratch resistance. Users no longer need to worry about the outer screen being scratched by hard objects during daily use, thus greatly enhancing its durability.
In terms of color options, the Mate XT2 also offers four classic colors, including Black, Red, Purple, and White, consistent with its predecessor, balancing business sophistication with fashionable individuality.
In terms of hardware configuration, the Mate XT2 will be equipped with the Kirin 9050 series flagship chip. This chip is the first to adopt advanced logic folding technology, achieving a significant leap in transistor density and energy efficiency, making it arguably Huawei’s most powerful mobile chip to date. Combined with Huawei’s continuous optimization of the imaging system and software ecosystem, the overall experience of the Mate XT2 is expected to reach new heights.
Regarding pricing, referencing the previous generation Mate XTs’ starting price of 17,999 yuan, and considering the improvements in hinge technology, screen materials, and chip costs of the new generation product, the Huawei Mate XT2 is expected to be priced around 20,000 yuan.
Meanwhile, the Mate 90 series flagship phone, also unveiled at the same event, will be powered by the Kirin 9050 platform and feature significant upgrades in imaging and screen technology. With September approaching, this showdown between Huawei and Apple is highly anticipated.
