Huawei to be the first to launch a wide foldable screen phone

According to Fast Technology on February 25, in the past few years, the foldable screen phone market has developed along two lines: one is large foldable screens with certain light office capabilities, and the other is portable and aesthetically pleasing vertical foldable screens. The two lines are very clear, and their product positioning does not conflict at all.

However, by 2026, this unequal situation is being completely disrupted by a new species called the wide-screen foldable display. According to reports, several giants, including Apple, Huawei, and Samsung, have their eyes on this new market, and Huawei is poised to gain an early advantage in this wide-screen battle.

Back in March 2025, Huawei’s Pura X, with its 3.5-inch external screen and 6.3-inch internal screen, successfully defined the form factor of a wide-screen, compact foldable phone.
This year, Huawei is taking it a step further, preparing to debut a wide-screen, large foldable phone. This new product boasts a 7.69-inch screen when unfolded, offering a visual experience very close to that of the iPad mini.

Unlike traditional large foldable screens that pursue a slim proportion, the essence of wide foldable screens lies in their wider body. It can have about 10% more effective display area than a regular foldable screen. When processing information streams, reading e-books, or operating in split-screen mode, the improvement in experience is very intuitive and is more in line with the real-world scenarios of mobile light office work.

This highly anticipated new product belongs to the PuraX series. To support powerful work and entertainment needs, it will be equipped with the same Kirin 9030 chip as the Mate 80 series, and feature Huawei’s signature Red Maple Quad Camera system. This means that while users enjoy the productivity leap brought by the large screen, they will also receive top-notch image recording capabilities and performance guarantees.

With the addition of this large-screen folding design, the mobile phone market in 2026 is becoming broader than ever before. It is not only a mobile phone, but also another large-screen flagship that Huawei has explored at the boundary between tablets and mobile phones.
