iOS 18 To Feature Siri Conversational Abilities
Apple’s iOS 18 is set to introduce a new version of Siri with enhanced natural conversation capabilities. This update, revealed by renowned Apple leaker Mark Gurman in his latest “Power On” newsletter, is part of a series of generative AI tools Apple plans to unveil at the Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC) in June. While only a portion of these AI features will be released this year, they will be included in iOS 18, significantly upgrading Siri’s user experience.
The new Siri is expected to offer a personalized experience with the ability to conduct natural conversations. This feature is likely to support cross-device usage, meaning Siri could potentially transfer conversation information across devices. Apple has been testing the “Ajax” large language model, a generative AI tool, since early 2023. This model aims to add “auto-complete” and “auto-summarize” functions to Apple’s core applications and productivity suite, including Pages and Keynote.
Additionally, the new version of Xcode, Apple’s integrated development tool, will utilize AI capabilities to assist developers with coding. Apple also plans to integrate AI into Apple Music to create “auto-playlists” for users and use the technology to address issues in AppleCare services.
Despite these advancements, Gurman believes that Apple’s full vision for generative AI may not be fully realized until at least 2025.
