iPhone Remained The Best-Selling Phone In China in 2023
In 2023, Apple emerged as the top-selling smartphone brand in China, with a total of 2.7 billion smartphones sold in the country, according to data from research firm BCI. The top six brands in terms of market share were Apple, Vivo, OPPO, Honor, Xiaomi, and Huawei, collectively accounting for 91.5% of the market.
A significant change from 2022 was Apple’s rise to the top spot, surpassing Vivo. This shift was largely attributed to the iPhone’s popularity in the Chinese market, where its average selling price exceeded 7000 yuan. Research company Sandalwood’s data on smartphone brand e-commerce sales revealed that the best-selling brands on JD.com and Tmall last year were Apple, Xiaomi, OPPO, Honor, Huawei, and Vivo, with overall sales slightly increasing by 0.3% compared to 2022.
The market saw a notable shift in the second half of the year with the sudden launch of Huawei’s Mate 60 series. This release led to a renewed perception of Huawei among smartphone users and a rapid increase in Huawei’s overall market share.
With Huawei’s strong comeback, there is a potential risk for other domestic manufacturers to lose their market base. Apple, in particular, might face a greater impact, especially in the high-end market segment. This dynamic market scenario underscores the competitive nature of the smartphone industry in China and the significant influence of major players like Apple and Huawei.
