During the MWC 2025 conference, MediaTek officially announced the new generation of baseband solution ” M90 ” that complies with the 5G-A communication standard, which can provide a peak downlink transmission rate , surpassing the 10Gbps that Qualcomm Snapdragon X65/X70/X80 has been stagnant at.

MediaTek M90 complies with 3GPP Release 17 and Release 18 communication standards , and can further improve performance by 20% through 3GPP Release 17 2T-2T uplink transmission switching technology (Uplink TX switching).

It supports FR1 450MHz-6GHz in the Sub-6GHz frequency band, and supports up to 6CC-CA carrier aggregation, and supports FR2 24.25GHz-52.6GHz in the millimeter wave frequency band, and up to 10CC-CA carrier aggregation . Of course, it also supports 5G dual-SIM dual-pass and dual data transmission.

MediaTek M90 also has MediaTek’s modem AI technology built in for the first time, abbreviated as “NMAI”, which introduces an AI model that can improve device energy efficiency and communication performance.

The AI model can intelligently identify data traffic patterns to optimize power consumption and latency, and can also provide a better network connection experience by detecting device orientation and usage scenarios.

The smart antenna technology (Smart Antenna) can use AI to train high-performance models with the help of aggregated large-scale antenna impedance and signal data. The accuracy of environmental recognition is as high as 99.5%, and data throughput can be increased by up to 24%.

MediaTek M90 also integrates NTN non-terrestrial network satellite communication technology , supports 3GPP IoT-NTN for low-rate connection applications, and NR-NTN for high-rate connection services. In the future, building satellite communication phones will be simpler and more powerful.

UltraSave power-saving technology is of course indispensable, which can reduce the average power consumption by 18% compared with the previous generation.

Currently, MediaTek has completed field testing of the M90 baseband with a number of industry partners, including:

1. Cooperated with Keysight to complete 5G NRDC FR1+FR2 dual connection, with a downlink transmission rate of up to 11.6Gbps

2. Cooperated with Verizon and Samsung Electronics to complete 5G FR1 SA 6CC carrier aggregation test, and achieved a downlink transmission rate of 5.5Gbps through virtualized radio access network (vRAN)

3. Cooperated with Telstra and Ericsson to complete 5G NRDC FR1+FR2 dual-connection real network test, with a downlink transmission rate of nearly 10Gbps

MediaTek has passed industry standard testing and will send samples in the second half of 2025.
