Samsung Exynos 2600 prototype to be mass-produced in May: the world’s first 2nm chip

Samsung failed to release the Exynos 2500 on time, and the Galaxy S25 series was forced to be equipped with Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Elite chips.

According to media reports, Samsung has shifted its focus to the next-generation flagship platform Exynos 2600. This chip is the first to use Samsung’s 2nm process and is scheduled to enter the prototype mass production stage in May. The Galaxy S26 series will be the first to be equipped with it. This is the world’s first 2nm mobile phone chip.

According to reports, Exynos 2600 is manufactured based on Samsung’s SF2 process, which is Samsung’s first-generation 2nm process. Compared with the second-generation 3GAP 3nm process, SF2 can reduce power consumption by 25% under the same computing frequency and complexity, improve computing performance by 12% under the same power consumption and complexity, and reduce chip area by 5%.

It is worth noting that Samsung has planned multiple 2nm nodes. In addition to the SF2 mentioned above, there are also SF2P, SF2X, SF2Z, SF2A, etc. Among them, SF2X and SF2Z can be used for high-performance computing and artificial intelligence applications, and SF2A can be used for automotive applications.

As a competitor of Samsung, TSMC plans to produce 2nm process chips in 2025. However, the iPhone 17 series, which will be launched in the second half of the year, will not be able to use TSMC’s 2nm process. Apple will use 2nm chips on the iPhone 18 series at the earliest. The Snapdragon 8 Elite 2 chip to be released by Qualcomm in the second half of the year will also not be able to use the 2nm process and will also use the 3nm process node.
