The Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra is rumored to introduce a highly anticipated camera feature in early 2024, according to a reliable leak source, Ice Universe. This feature, which has been a popular aspect of Sony Xperia flagships like the Xperia 1 V, is the ability to record videos in 4K at 120 frames per second (fps).

While many details about the Galaxy S24 Ultra have been speculated, this particular feature had not been previously disclosed. Ice Universe suggests that Samsung might reveal this surprise during an event on January 17, 2024. The Galaxy S24 Ultra, succeeding the Galaxy S23 Ultra (available on Amazon), is expected to surpass the 4K 60 fps video recording capability of its predecessor.

The addition of 4K120 video recording to the Galaxy S24 Ultra would align it with features commonly found in action cameras and Sony Xperia flagships. Nubia’s Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 flagship, the Nubia Z60 Ultra, also recently advertised a 4K120 option across all three of its camera sensors. It remains unclear if Samsung will enable this high-quality slow-motion option for all focal lengths of the Galaxy S24 Ultra or if there will be any recording time limits.

This enhancement is likely to please videographers, especially since the Galaxy S23 Ultra did not allow lens switching while recording in 4K60. An earlier leak hinted that this limitation might be addressed in the new model. While 4K120 recording isn’t a novel feature in smartphones – the OnePlus 9 Pro was already capable of this – it has been relatively rare in the market. If Samsung confirms and implements this feature in the Galaxy S24 Ultra, it would be a significant move, potentially influencing the rest of the smartphone industry.
