Samsung plans to use its own Exynos 2500 chip in the Galaxy Z Flip7 to be released in July 2025 .
Although the chip’s current yield rate is only between 20% and 40%, Samsung still made this choice mainly to reduce costs.
The Exynos2500 chip began mass production in February this year, but due to limited yield rates, supply is limited.
It is reported that the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip7 was originally rumored to use the Snapdragon 8Elite chip and has passed internal testing. However, due to cost considerations, Samsung finally chose the Exynos 2500 .
Usually, Samsung will start mass production only when the chip yield rate reaches 60%. Although the cost per wafer of Exynos 2500 is higher, the overall cost may be lower than that of Snapdragon 8 Extreme Edition.
Samsung plans to produce 200,000 Galaxy Z Flip7s by June, and will subsequently adjust production based on chip yield and consumer demand.
In addition, Samsung hopes to accumulate experience and improve the yield rate of 2nm GAA chips. Samsung plans to fully start 2nm wafer production in the second half of 2025, and is expected to compete with TSMC.
