Samsung’s creation aims to compete with Apple’s iPhone Fold.
Samsung is testing the new One UI 9 system, and developers have discovered traces of a mysterious new foldable screen phone in the underlying code.
This new phone adopts a wide folding form factor, making it the first wide folding screen model in the Android camp. System animations leaked in One UI 9 show that the inner screen of this wide folding screen has an aspect ratio of approximately 4:3, and the visual effect when unfolded is very similar to an iPad.
The advantage of this design is that it provides a wider field of view when processing documents, working in split-screen mode, or watching videos, but the trade-off is that its outer screen becomes very large, making one-handed operation quite difficult.
Regarding the naming, leaks suggest that the new device may be called Galaxy Wide Fold, indicating that it will be released as a brand new product line alongside the existing Galaxy Z Fold series.
In terms of specific specifications, the Galaxy Wide Fold will have a 7.6-inch inner screen and a 5.4-inch outer screen. Its overall screen ratio and size layout almost completely overlap with the rumored iPhone Fold , making it a highly competitive device.
Currently, it appears that Samsung’s new wide foldable screen product will be officially unveiled at the Unpacked event in the summer of this year. At that time, it will join the Z Fold series and Z Flip series to form Samsung’s strongest foldable screen matrix, targeting the iPhone Fold which will be launched in September.
