The Huawei Mate XT2 will feature a triple-fold design and a major performance upgrade, powered by the Kirin chip from Tao.

In May of this year, Huawei officially released its new semiconductor evolution theory, Tao Law. Unlike Moore’s Law, which relies on shrinking transistor size to improve performance, this theory focuses on “time miniaturization” and uses self-developed logic folding technology to upgrade chip circuits from a single-layer planar layout to a double-layer vertical stacked structure, shortening the signal transmission path and significantly increasing transistor density under existing mature processes, thus freeing Huawei from dependence on high-end advanced processes.

According to Huawei’s previous introduction, the Kirin 2026, which adopts the Tao Law, has achieved a significant increase in transistor density of 53.5%, reaching a new industry high of 238 million transistors per square millimeter. This means that 238 million transistors can be integrated on a chip area of ​​one square millimeter, which is theoretically on par with Intel’s 18A process and close to the first generation of TSMC’s 3nm process.

At the same time, the chip’s P-core energy efficiency has been improved by 41%, and the maximum frequency has also been increased by 12.7%, achieving a double leap in performance and energy efficiency.

In addition, HarmonyOS 7’s Ark Engine is equipped with a high-performance model for the first time, improving performance by 15%. Combined with the new Kirin chip, this will greatly enhance the performance of the Mate XT2.

In addition to performance upgrades, the Huawei Mate XT2 also adopts a brand-new U-shaped folding design, which is somewhat similar to Samsung’s G-shaped design, except that the folding order is reversed. First, the left side is folded, then the right side is folded. After folding, the screen is completely wrapped inside the body, greatly improving protection.

Meanwhile, the Huawei Mate XT2 is equipped with an independent external screen, which can be used to make and receive calls, quickly reply to messages, or scan QR codes to make payments without unfolding the large internal screen, greatly improving the convenience of daily operation.
