The LCD fan’s dream screen! BOE releases samples of 1.5K high-refresh LCD screens

Blogger Digital Chat Station introduced that BOE has sampled a 1.5K LCD high-refresh screen. The screen size is 6.74 inches , the resolution is 2720×1224, it supports 120Hz/144Hz high refresh rate, uses RGB independent pixel arrangement, has 446 PPI, and the display clarity is comparable to the conventional OLED 600 PPI. The maximum brightness is 1500nit, and the ghosting is also improved.

The blogger did not reveal which manufacturer will use this LCD screen. Currently, mid-to-high-end Android models have all switched to OLED, with LCD being used only in a few thousand-yuan and hundred-yuan phones.

Compared with OLED, one of the biggest advantages of LCD is eye protection. Currently, there are two common dimming methods for mobile phones to control screen brightness, namely DC dimming and PWM dimming.

Since PWM dimming is essentially a “bright-dark-bright-dark” process, the brightness can be adjusted by controlling the screen flickering frequency, the duration of brightness and darkness, and the brightness fluctuation. However, this will inevitably cause the screen to flicker or strobe.

LCD screens use DC dimming, which changes the screen brightness by adjusting the current intensity of the backlight source. This method does not require alternating flashing and is relatively more friendly to the eyes. This is also one of the important reasons why LCD parties stick to LCD screens.

However, since LCD screens require a backlight module, they are thicker than OLED panels, do not support under-screen fingerprint sensors, and cannot even be equipped with under-screen cameras that may become mainstream in the future. Therefore, OLED has become the mainstream in the mobile phone industry.
