The pioneer is back! Honor Magic9 will bring back LOFIC technology.

According to Fast Technology on February 15th, digital blogger “Smart Pikachu” revealed today that the Honor Magic9 will bring back LOFIC technology.

It is understood that Honor first launched LOFIC technology in 2024, and the Honor Magic6 Ultimate Edition and Honor Magic6 RSR were the first in the industry to use DSLR-level super dynamic eagle eye cameras based on LOFIC technology.

LOFIC stands for Lateral Overflow Integration Capacitor. Its core principle is to add high-density capacitors next to each photodiode in the image sensor to hold the photoelectrons that might otherwise overflow due to saturation.

When the photoelectrons generated by a photodiode exceed its maximum carrying capacity, the excess electrons will flow into the adjacent capacitor, and will not cause “overexposure” in the highlight area due to overflow.

This design significantly enhances the sensor’s ability to retain highlight details, enabling images to present a more realistic range of light and shadow in complex scenes with both strong light and dark areas.

Based on the LOFIC technology image sensor, Honor has significantly increased the full-well capacity of a single pixel in traditional mobile phone image sensors from approximately 30,000 to approximately 270,000, an increase of nearly 9 times, greatly enhancing the dynamic range of the imaging system in ultra-high contrast scenes.

As is customary, the Honor Magic9 series will be among the first to be equipped with the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen6 flagship chip, which uses TSMC’s 2nm N2P process. This will be Honor’s first high-end flagship to use a 2nm process chip.
