Xiaomi Mi 16 is the first to be equipped with Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Elite 2 upgraded to TSMC N3P process

blogger Digital Chat Station revealed that the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Elite 2 (SM8850) that will be launched in the second half of next year will be upgraded to TSMC’s N3P process, while the Samsung Exynos flagship chip that will be launched in the same period will be upgraded to its own SF2 process.

He also revealed that the strategy of some flagship products will be adjusted next year. The standard version and Pro version may not necessarily be a product combination of Snapdragon 8 Elite and Snapdragon 8 Elite 2, but a combination of Snapdragon 8s Elite and Snapdragon 8 Elite 2.

It is understood that the TSMC N3P used by Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Elite 2 is TSMC’s third-generation 3nm process. Compared with N3E, N3P further improves energy efficiency and transistor density.

Compared with N3E, N3P has a performance improvement of about 4% at the same power consumption, a power consumption reduction of about 9% at the same clock frequency, and a transistor density increase of 4%. TSMC has stated that the N3P node yield has been further improved and is comparable to the mature 5nm process.

In addition, Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Elite 2 will continue to use the cluster design of Snapdragon 8 Elite, still with a 2P+6E configuration, but the main frequency will be increased again.

As usual, flagships such as the Xiaomi 16 series, REDMI K90 series, vivo X300 series, realme GT8 Pro, iQOO 14 and OnePlus 14 will all be the first to be equipped with the Snapdragon 8 Elite 2 processor.
