Huawei officially announced that two devices, nova 12 Ultra (including Starry Edition), have started to upgrade to the HarmonyOS NEXT public beta version.

It is worth noting that this is also the first model in the nova series to start the HarmonyOS NEXT public beta.

Registration entrance: “My Huawei” APP>Home>Upgrade and try out>(Multi-device trial)Upgrade and try out. After success, follow the prompts on the page to “Go to software update” to download the version for upgrade.

HarmonyOS NEXT is also known as pure-blooded Hongmeng. It is a full-stack self-developed system base that abandons the traditional AOSP code and only supports the Hongmeng kernel and Hongmeng system applications. It is an independently controllable operating system originating from China.

Therefore, each major application needs to be adapted individually and corresponding HarmonyOS native applications need to be developed.

Huawei reminds that because the current version is still in the testing phase, after this upgrade, some applications may not be available on the HarmonyOS NEXT application market and some data may not be inherited and saved.

Before upgrading, be sure to back up your device data through functions such as Phone Clone, Huawei Mobile Assistant, and Cloud Backup. It is recommended that third-party software such as QO and WeChat be migrated and backed up separately, and confirm that the backup content is complete and valid.

You can also use the new cloud space temporary backup function to back up important data. There is no space limit and the data can be saved for 30 days.

During the HarmonyOS NEXT upgrade period (before December 31, 2024), backup records will be saved for an additional 30 days on top of the original 30 days, for a total of 60 days.
