The latest release from HMD is a smartphone named Luma which should not be confused with “Lumia” a name that might have sounded interesting. This device appears to be similar to the HMD Vibe but comes with a lower end chipset.

The HMD Luma is powered by the Unisoc T615 processor, which is built on a 12nm process and includes Cortex-A75 and Cortex-A55 cores that are somewhat outdated by today’s standards. It is configured with 4GB of RAM and offers two storage options 128GB or 256GB while also allowing additional storage through a microSD slot. Unfortunately, the phone comes with Android 15 right out of the box which may feel underwhelming for some users.

Beyond the microSD slot for extra storage the phone includes several features that might be considered “old-school” such as a 3.5mm headphone jack and a built-in FM radio receiver. Those who prefer wireless listening can make use of Bluetooth 5.0 to connect headphones or other compatible devices. The smartphone also comes equipped with stereo speakers which deliver a more immersive sound experience for music, video playback and other media.

The Luma features a USB-C 2.0 port that supports 18W charging which is sufficient to power its 5,000mAh battery efficiently. Another key difference from the HMD Vibe is that this phone supports only 4G connectivity but it also offers dual SIM support for users who want to maintain two separate phone numbers on a single device.

The camera on this device is an improvement over the one found on the Vibe 4G featuring a 50MP sensor similar to the Vibe 5G. The front facing camera has also been upgraded to 8MP making selfies clearer and more detailed although better does not necessarily mean excellent. The screen is 6.67 inches in size and uses an LCD panel with a resolution of 720 by 1,604 pixels. With a 120Hz refresh rate the display delivers smoother visuals and scrolling than the Vibe which only has a 90Hz panel.

HMD has announced that the Luma will be available in two attractive finishes: Titanium and Blue. The phone can be found on HMD’s official portals for Nigeria and Ghana but neither site lists the device’s price. A short teaser video shared on Instagram notes that the device is “coming soon” which likely explains why pricing details have not yet been revealed.
