On June 11, 2025, Huawei officially launched the Pura 80 series of mobile phones at its annual new product launch conference. As the latest member of Huawei’s flagship product line, this series, with “pioneering imaging aesthetics” as its core, redefines the possibilities of mobile imaging.

Among them, Pura 80 Ultra and Pura 80 Pro+ became the focus of the conference with their breakthrough imaging technology, exquisite appearance design and comprehensive hardware configuration. These two mobile phones not only continue Huawei’s technological accumulation in the high-end market, but also bring a new user experience through a number of innovative functions.

Exterior design: a fusion of tradition and modernity

The appearance design of Huawei Pura 80 Ultra and Pura 80 Pro+ continues the family’s “dazzling weather vane” language, while incorporating traditional Chinese monochrome glaze porcelain craftsmanship. The overall style is warm and pure, yet it retains a modern sense of technology.

In terms of color matching, Pura 80 Pro+ offers four options: glaze white, glaze green, glaze red, and glaze black, while Pura 80 Ultra offers two colors: glazed gold and glazed black. Through the combination of metal texture and matte craftsmanship, it presents a unique light and shadow level.

In terms of the rear camera module, the two smartphones further highlight their respective positioning through differentiated processing of details. The lens module of Pura 80 Ultra adopts a more complex structure. Its iconic one-lens binocular telephoto lens combines the 3.7x medium telephoto lens and the 9.4x super telephoto lens into one through a unique dual-optical path switching mechanism. The lens group size is more prominent than that of Pro+, and the edges are decorated with sun patterns, making the overall visual effect more tense.

The Pura 80 Pro+ continues the traditional multi-camera layout. Although it does not adopt a binocular structure, it still maintains the recognition of a high-end imaging flagship through the arrangement and combination of four lenses (main camera, ultra-wide-angle, telephoto and red maple primary color camera).

In terms of screen, both phones are equipped with a 6.8-inch OLED quad-curved screen with optimized curvature, which not only takes into account the visual immersion but also avoids the problem of accidental touch. The screen has a peak brightness of 3000 nits, supports 1-120Hz adaptive refresh rate, and is equipped with Huawei’s self-developed immersive display technology, which significantly improves color performance and contrast.

In addition, the addition of the second-generation basalt tempered Kunlun glass further enhances the screen’s drop resistance. Official data shows that its durability is about 25 times higher than the previous generation.

In addition, the two models are slightly different in weight and thickness. Due to the increased complexity of the lens module, the Pura 80 Ultra weighs 233.5g and is 8.3mm thick; while the Pura 80 Pro+ weighs 219g and is thinner.

Despite this, thanks to Huawei’s in-depth polishing of details such as the curvature transition of the screen edges and the connection between the middle frame and the back shell, even the thicker Pura 80 Ultra is very comfortable to hold in daily life.

Imaging System: Redefining Mobile Photography

As the representative of Huawei’s imaging flagship, Pura 80 Ultra and Pura 80 Pro+ are particularly outstanding in the imaging system. Both main cameras use a 1-inch large-bottom sensor, but Pura 80 Ultra has been further upgraded on this basis, equipped with a one-inch ultra-high dynamic range main camera, and combined with TCG triple real-time fusion technology, it can capture ultra-high brightness, highlight and dark details respectively, and the dynamic range is increased to 16EV. This technology is particularly useful in backlit scenes, which can not only retain the details of the highlight area, but also present a richer sense of layering in the dark area.

Telephoto capability is the core highlight of these two phones. The Pura 80 Pro+ is equipped with a periscope telephoto lens with 4x optical zoom and supports up to 100x digital zoom; while the Pura 80 Ultra is the first to create a “one lens, two eyes” ultra-large bottom dual telephoto structure, combining a 3.7x medium telephoto lens and a 9.4x ultra-telephoto lens into one. Through the 1/1.28-inch ultra-large bottom sensor and RYYB filter array, the Pura 80 Ultra achieves higher light intake and color reproduction capabilities in telephoto shooting.

In addition, both phones are equipped with a red maple primary color camera that supports pixel-level color calibration of 1.5 million multi-spectral channels. This design significantly improves the night scene shooting effect, and can present natural and realistic colors even in complex lighting environments.

Users can also use the XMAGE personalized color card function to select stylized tones such as movies, animation, and film, and even adjust parameters before and after shooting to meet the creative needs of different scenes. The addition of functions such as AI-assisted composition and ultra-clear panoramic mode also allows ordinary users to easily take high-quality photos.

Battery life and performance: a balance between efficiency and stability

In terms of performance, both phones are equipped with the new Hongmeng 5.1 system. Hongmeng 5.1 is based on the Ark Engine technology, which enables faster application startup and more stable game frame rates. In actual use, whether it is multi-tasking switching or operation in high-load scenarios, it can maintain a smooth experience.

The upgrade of Hongmeng 5.1 has injected more intelligent features into Pura 80 Ultra and Pura 80 Pro+. The newly upgraded “Xiaoyi” assistant supports multi-modal real-time Q&A, and can call multiple tools such as phone, navigation, and weather, becoming a smart partner in the user’s life. For example, when traveling, users can quickly query scenic spot information and plan routes through voice commands, greatly improving travel efficiency.

In response to the risk of privacy leakage in mobile office scenarios, the Pura 80 series pioneered the “AI anti-peep protection” function. Relying on the eye tracking algorithm of the front camera, when peeping behavior is detected, the screen will instantly start pixel-level encryption and remind the user through vibration. This technology breaks through the sacrifice of display effect by traditional anti-peep films and achieves a dual balance of “privacy protection and visual experience”.

In addition, the system also integrates AI face-changing detection, anti-fraud call recognition and other functions. Through the semantic analysis of call content by Pangu big model, it can warn of fraud risks in real time and automatically mark suspicious numbers, building financial-level security protection for users.

In terms of content creation, Huawei has lowered the technical threshold for professional photography through features such as personalized color cards and AI-assisted composition. The personalized color card function provides four carefully adjusted exclusive color styles: natural, film, movie, and animation.

Users can freely adjust the color card parameters before and after shooting, and preview the effect in real time, just like mastering a set of customized color formula system. The AI-assisted composition function is based on the deep learning of more than 500,000 professional images to build an AI aesthetic composition engine. In actual shooting, the phone can intelligently identify high-frequency scenes, actively recommend the best framing range, and automatically switch to the appropriate focal length.

In terms of battery life, both Pura 80 Ultra and Pura 80 Pro+ are equipped with a large-capacity 5700mAh battery, supporting 100W wired fast charging and 80W wireless fast charging.

Last words

The positioning of Pura 80 Ultra and Pura 80 Pro+ is slightly different. The former, with its one-lens binocular telephoto and ultra-high dynamic main camera, performs well in extreme shooting scenes and is more suitable for users who pursue extreme images; the latter maintains a balance in performance and function, suitable for daily use and light creative needs.

No matter which one you choose, the Huawei Pura 80 series demonstrates its technical strength and innovation capabilities in the high-end mobile phone market. For users who pursue imaging experience and smart ecology, these two mobile phones undoubtedly provide extremely attractive choices.
